What we're set up to do

Our governing document puts it plainly: we're here to play our part in relieving human suffering, irrespective of colour, creed or class. Day to day, that looks like:

• Relieving hardship and distress among homeless people, and among those in need who are living in adverse housing conditions.
• Making money available to housing associations and other charitable bodies whose aims align with ours, so their work isn't held up for lack of funds.

We keep our focus narrow on purpose. Staying small and focused means we can move quickly and keep costs down — and honestly, we'd rather do a few things well than try to be everything to everyone.

Governance

GFY Shelters is led by a board of trustees who give their time for free — no pay, fees or perks. The day-to-day work happens thanks to our team of volunteers.

Trustees & volunteers

Our trustees are legally responsible for how the charity's run, and for keeping it true to what it was set up to do. You can see who they are, and any other trusteeships they hold, on the public Charity Commission register — we point there rather than list it here, so you're always seeing the up-to-date version.

Behind the trustees, our volunteers do the practical work: assessing requests for help, coordinating with local housing associations, and keeping the charity running day to day.

Accountability

We report annually to the Charity Commission for England and Wales, which regulates charities in England and Wales and holds our filed accounts, trustee list and governing document on public record.
